Full Title

Low-Level Laser Therapy for Fibromyalgia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Summary

This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in treating fibromyalgia. Nine randomized controlled trials (RCTs) including 325 patients were analyzed. Compared to placebo, LLLT significantly improved Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) scores, pain severity, number of tender points, fatigue, stiffness, anxiety, and depression. However, when LLLT was combined with a standardized exercise program, it did not show additional benefits over exercise alone. A separate RCT using combined LLLT/LED phototherapy demonstrated further improvements in most outcomes. Despite some methodological limitations, the findings suggest LLLT is an effective and well-tolerated treatment for fibromyalgia.
